Bucket-List Belize: Post-lockdown Updates

A Post-Lockdown Paradise Worthy of Every Wanderlust Bucket List!

Sandwiched between Mexico and Guatemala and flanked by the shimmering Caribbean Sea. The turquoise shallows and the cobalt depths of the Belize Barrier Reef. Belize is one of Central America’s biggest tourist destinations.

An island paradise of natural wonders, hidden gems, rich cultural treasures and diverse culture. A Caribbean vacation destination worthy of every wanderlust bucket list!

COVID-19 in Belize

Sadly, Covid-19 has reached our piece of paradise and a State of Emergency in Belize came into effect on April 1st for 30 days, with borders and the Philip Goldson International Airport closing.

But, Belize has indeed managed to “flattened the curve” with a total of only 18 Coronavirus cases, 2 unfortunate deaths and, thankfully, no new cases since April 16th.

While Ambergris Caye is currently cut off from the mainland with no travel allowed. Covid-19 has managed to shut down the world. Changing the jet-setting ways of the rich and famous and the face of travel forever.

But, there’s always good news for those with a wanderlust soul and a passion for global adventures – quarantines and lockdowns will lift, countries will open their borders and travelers will slowly begin their post-lockdown adventures, with a deeper appreciation for the freedom of travel.

Traveling After COVID-19

traveling after covid 19

The Coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc on the travel industry as a whole, and it is unlikely that air travel, or any form of travel for that matter, will ever be the same again.

Belize travel requirements may change and when it is safe to travel and reopen borders, stringent preventive measures will be taken to contain and control the virus going forward.

Safety First

The safety of our guests is important to us and we ensure that the best hygiene practices are taken at all times in our vacation rentals, to ensure a safe and healthy stay in Belize.

While keeping your Belize vacation in mind, stay up to date with the latest news and updated travel restrictions on the CDC and WHO travel sites and get recent updates from the Ministry of Health and Belize Tourism Board.

Why Choose Belize For Your Lockdown Escape?

Belize for lockdown escape

In the meantime, while you’re safe at home with itchy feet and nothing but virtual travel to satisfy your wanderlust, it’s the perfect time to start planning and preparing your lockdown escape to Belize!

The best time to visit Belize is from October to April (yes, perfect timing), the dry season when blue skies, the warm Caribbean sun, gentle lapping waters and chilled island vibes set the tone for a lockdown vacation that’ll leave the crazy, unprecedented first quarter of 2020 in the dust!

There is nowhere on Earth quite like Belize, and anyone who has visited will surely agree, but if you need any more convincing, here’s why we think this vibrant and diverse vacation destination should be on your “Things to Do After Lockdown” bucket-list!

Easily Accessible But Worlds Away

Belize is easily accessible, yet worlds away from the hustle and bustle of life! Five major airlines fly into the Philip Godson International Airport in Belize City from the US and current requirements are easy – a valid passport, proof of sufficient funds and proof of onward travel.

From there you can fly directly into San Pedro or take the San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi from the water terminal, a short 20 minute taxi drive from the airport to paradise.

Barefoot on the Beach in Belize

By now we’re all 100% sure that cabin fever is indeed a thing! And yes, while we all want to get out and about, it will be a while before we hang out in large crowds or feel comfortable cruising the malls.

While the world-class beaches of Belize are the main attraction, equally attractive right now is the fact that San Pedro is one of the less populated travel destinations in the Caribbean and self-isolation is easy in this chilled and laid-back fishing village.

Endless stretches of white sand to escape, no dress codes, no crowds – only long lazy days of adventures, new experiences and lifelong memories of post-lockdown freedom.

The Belize Barrier Reef

Stretching 190 miles along the coastline, the Belize Barrier Reef is one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world, beautifully visible and easily accessible from our shoreline.

Tick Belize’s signature dive, The Great Blue Hole, off your bucket-list and discover underwater treasures as you explore the true beauty and best diving in Belize, beneath the turquoise waters. It’s easy to isolate in the vast Caribbean sea.

On the Water

For those that prefer to stay above water, the crystal clear waters are scattered with reefs, cayes and lagoons teeming with colorful coral and brilliant marine life, offering an abundance of on the water activities for all ages.

Whether you’re soaking up the sunset on a private dolphin cruise, paddle boarding the turquoise seas or exploring on a jet ski, Belize watersports are unbeatable!

The Jungle

Imagine walking through the depths of the verdant jungles and lush rainforests! It conjures up all sorts of lockdown emotions, the feeling of freedom, wide open spaces and a new appreciation for earth’s wildlife and natural wonders.

There are many exciting tours from Ambergris Caye to the mainland and a Belize jungle experience is a moment to behold and remember forever.

Go cave tubing through natural tunnels in a remote National Park, track a jaguar, zipline through jungle canopies surrounded by spectacular wildlife and soak up the natural beauty of Belize.

If you’re lucky, you could get a guest appearance from the national bird of Belize, the showy keel-billed toucan, in all its glory.

Birdwatching at its Best

Pack your binoculars! Belize is one of the world’s top birding spots and home to over 600 different species, a spectacular variety for a small country, with only 20% migrants.

While the diverse habitats of the inland national parks, wetlands and sanctuaries are prime birdwatching spots, over 260 species have been recorded in the coastal mangroves and wetlands of Ambergris Caye alone.

Take a boat trip to the tiny cayes surrounding Secret Beach, listen to the mockingbirds sing and float into the sunset thankful you picked beautiful Belize as your post-lockdown travel destination.

Historical Sites & Culture

Belize has a rich and storied past. The Ancient Maya remain one of the world’s most mysterious civilizations. And the Marco Gonzalez Maya Site on Ambergris Caye is one of 19 sites recognized on the island with fascinating artifacts.

Human skeletons and archaeological structures dating back to AD800. Step back to a time of Mayan culture, rituals, sacrifices and a mysteriousness worth discovering.

Traditional Food & Restaurants

With restaurants closed across the globe, may we tempt you with the idea of a mouth-watering traditional Belizean meal?

Belize is a melting pot of cultures bringing their culinary influences and fragrant spices from near and far and is fast becoming known as a foodie’s paradise and culinary hotspot.

Award-winning palapa bars, open-air seafood restaurants, sidewalk pop-ups and authentic traditional Belizean eateries line the vibey streets of San Pedro, with an aroma and atmosphere that reminds you, you’re on vacation in paradise and eating out is not a crime!
